The different types of freediving disciplines

Freediving is a sport that is growing in popularity every year. As the sport grows, so does the number of disciplines within freediving. In this article, we will explore the four main disciplines of freediving: static apnea, dynamic apnea, depth diving, and free-immersion.

Static Apnea: This is a discipline where the freediver holds their breath while being static, no movement. This discipline requires a lot of mental training and control as well as physical endurance. Static apnea can be practiced in a pool or in open water.

Dynamic Apnea:  This is a discipline where the freediver swims as much distance as possible underwater horizontally in a swimming pool. Dynamic apnea requires strong swimming skills and stamina.

Depth Diving: This is a discipline where the freediver swims down as deep as possible in a vertical position. Depth diving requires strong finning skills and the ability to equalize well at depths.

Free-Immersion: This is a discipline where the freediver only uses his hands and bodyweight to propel down the line, without the use of fins or propulsion equiptment. Free-immersion requires strong abdominal muscles and the ability to control your buoyancy.

There are many different disciplines within freediving, each with its own set of requirements and skills. In this article, we have explored the four main disciplines of freediving: static apnea, dynamic apnea, depth diving, and free-immersion. Whether you are just getting started in freediving or you are looking to branch out and try new things, there is a discipline for everyone!
